Steampunk Elegance
Silver satin, printed cotton, and black cowhide give Steampunk Elegance a cool, mechanical edge while still keeping the romance of the Victorian silhouette. Based on a fashion plate from the December 1882 edition of Harper’s Bazar, the ensemble features a fitted jacket, layered overskirt, and full underskirt with the kind of drama expected from late nineteenth-century dress.
The jacket combines silver satin with printed cotton and is quilted with flowers and swirls, adding raised texture across the bodice, collar, and cuffs. The contrast between the pale quilted sections and darker printed cotton gives the jacket a strong graphic quality, while the stitching softens the look with floral detail.
The silver satin overskirt is gathered into deep folds and trimmed with matching silver lace, creating movement and shine across the front of the garment. Beneath it, the printed cotton underskirt adds weight and contrast, while kick pleats alternating between cotton and satin bring extra detail to the hemline.
The black cowhide shoulder holster shifts the piece firmly into steampunk territory. Studded with gears and playful embellishments, it adds a sense of purpose and invention, as though the wearer is equipped for travel, exploration, or a bit of mischief in a Victorian fantasy world.
