Tis the Season (For Giving)

This time of year is all about giving and sharing.  Unfortunately, it’s not just peace on earth and good will towards man that gets shared.  It’s also Holiday treats, festive meals, (these can be lots of fun, but not necessarily good for the waist line). In the case of my 13-year-old, the creeping crud.  Tony got sick the day before Christmas, and was kind enough to share it with me a few days later.  I’m not sure what it is about kid germs. They are seriously potent.  I used to work  as a nurse on the Navajo Reservation.  This is a place that still has the Bubonic plague and Hantavirus. I never got as sick working there as I do now that I have kids. It has gotten better since they got into middle and high school, but it still isn’t good.  They are still giving and sharing everything they get with me. The worse part is they get something and it makes them a little under the weather for a couple of days. Then they give it to me and it knocks me flat for a week.  Oh to be young and resilient again. Not overly surprising, it’s really hard to run when you can’t breathe, so I did not get all my runs in that I was supposed to last week.  It’s really hard for me to keep going with something when I get off track. I had less trouble this time knowing that I had a ton of support from the people who have been reading along with me.  Not to mention the pressure of committing to this run in front of all of social media. So instead of getting discourage, I tried to walk as much as I could last week, when I felt up to it, and repeated the running I was supposed to do last week, this week.  It was hard.  But it felt really good to get back on track. Next week will be really challenging as well.  Up to this point, I have been  doing a run/walk workout.  Starting tomorrow, I will be doing a five-minute walk warmup/cool down, and running non-stop in between. The first run will be for 20 minutes, which seems like a long time to me. I have to remind myself it is only five minutes more than the running part of last weeks run/walk.  I can do this!  At least that’s what I keep telling myself.  I feel like the little engine that could.  “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.” This was a big week for me in another way too.  My Dad came down and helped me to remodel my studio. (Talk about giving and sharing).  The picture up top is just a tease.  I will be sharing more before and after pictures later.  I’m making room for a new addition in the next couple of months and can’t wait until I can share all about it! In the mean time, I am trying to get organized. Getting my studio set up to continue to help me get in better shape. I didn’t do too bad over the holidays. I still probably partook of too many Christmas treats.  My goal this week is to get back on track tracking my food intake.  (I will admit I didn’t really want to know how many calories were in that Christmas Fudge.)  I’m also trying to get all my class proposals done and submitted to various shows. I really want to teach more this year.  I’m trying to keep my New Year’s Resolutions achievable, but still challenge myself to get out of the rut I have been in lately.  What’s on your list of New Year’s Resolutions.  Check out my Facebook page Quilterontherun and share your resolution for a chance to win some cool magazines, and as always feel free to join me in my workouts.  Happy New Year!
